LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles transportation officials have announced street parking upgrades along Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice.
The upgrades include 196 marked on-street parking spaces, which are expected to improve access and reduce congestion; two-hour time limits to encourage parking turnover; motorcycle-specific parking stalls, which are the first of their kind in L.A.; seven accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities; and nine on-street dockless device corrals for e-scooters and e-bikes in an effort to reduce clutter on sidewalks.
“This design aims to create an organized, easy-to-use street,” said Seleta Reynolds, general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. “It reflects the multi-modal reality of Abbot-Kinney, one of L.A.’s most popular destinations, and supports businesses, community and the visitor experience.”
The upgrades were done in coordination with Councilman Mike Bonin, who represents the district. The goal of the enhancements is to improve people’s parking experience and support other modes of transportation for the area’s residents and visitors.
“Abbot Kinney has emerged as one of the most popular retail and dining destinations in the city of Los Angeles,” Bonin said. “That success has come with challenges. Local businesses wanted a better customer experience, while residents needed relief.
“This project will make it easier for visitors while reducing spillover parking and congestion in the neighborhood, a win-win for businesses and residents. I’m excited to give people more convenient options to travel in Venice.”
The upgrades were part of the L.A. Express Park program, which launched in 2012 and aims to increase parking availability and reduce traffic and pollution. The program allows people to use its mobile app and website to receive parking guidance and information on availability and pricing before they begin their trip so they can consider using another form of transportation.
