Drive-Through Food Distribution

Alhambra — The city will distribute food Aug. 29 on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 110 S. 2nd St in downtown Alhambra. Items for distribution include canned proteins and meats, rice pasta and canned vegetables and fruits among other items. Those receiving food are asked to remain in their vehicles and open their trunks for volunteers to place food items inside.

Facebook Live with U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez

Bellflower — U.S. Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA 38) will provide updates on COVID-19 and actions being taken by Congress on Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. via Facebook Live.

City Council Meeting

Lynwood — The City Council will host its first council meeting Sept. 1 since canceling its Aug. 18 meeting due to lack of quorum. The Council voted July 21 to freeze a 2020-2021 public safety contact increase with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Tenants Rights Workshop

Commerce — East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice is hosting a tenants rights workshop via Zoom for southeast L.A. residents on Aug. 29 and Sept. 8 and 18.

Manga Workshop 

Whittier — The city is hosting a workshop for those interested in Manga (Japanese comics) Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. via Zoom. Participants will be tutored on page layout, composition and online publishing. The workshop will also cover zines, graphic novels and comics.

East Los Angeles

The Brown Berets Los Angeles are hosting a networking event to observe the 50th anniversary of the Chicano Moratorium at Atlantic Park. The moratorium was a movement against the Vietnam War and police violence. Demonstrators will meet 9 a.m. at Whittier Blvd. in Pico Rivera to celebrate the 50th anniversary as well.

Floating Boat Cinema

Los Angeles County — Beyond Cinema is bringing the Floating Boat Cinema to LA Sept. 2 – 6. Visitors will be able to rent a boat for their party to experience classic and modern film while social distancing. Those interested can get more information here.
