BOOK CORNER: International economist addresses climate change in ecology thriller

In 2030, biotechnologists create a super agri-seed to combat global food insecurity caused by climate change. European fascist political parties secretly plot to destroy the seeds to intensify starvation among African migrants to Europe.

A Mossad agent, driven by his family’s Holocaust history, risks everything to recover the seeds and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. So goes, “The Seed Sanctuary,” by Ken Peters.

Inspiration for the book came from Peters’ life as an international economist. He spent more than 30 years living in foreign countries, many of which were third world emerging nations. Six of his 30 years were spent in African countries.

“As an economist, it didn’t take that much time to see things clearly and it was easy to observe the politics and how climate change began the exodus from Africa to Europe and see the {European Union’s] reactions as it escalated,” Peters said. “It wasn’t hard to put these pieces together for a great ecology thriller.”

“The Seed Sanctuary” was originally intended for an audience that included seasoned corporate executives and retired persons that enjoy reading.

Following his book presentation to college students, Peters discovered a new audience.

“I realized it’s truly the youngest group who see their world 20 years from now and with families who seem to find the story resonating for their future,” Peters said.

Peter hopes his book proves to be entertaining and insightful to readers.

“By putting facts into a thrilling ecology novel, it would assist readers to realize if climate change is not impacting your world today, it’s just around the corner,” Peters said. “When a book is engrossing, facts become resident in your mind versus many great novels I’ve read and written that fade with just a memory of ‘That was a great book.’”

In addition to being an author, Peters is retired and currently serves as a visiting professor at the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs at Florida International University lecturing on macroeconomic government policies. He has also been a distinguished guest scholar at the University of Shanghai, lecturing on international economic development. He is based in Miami, Florida.
