If you’re reading The Wave, you know metro Los Angeles is a place where hustle and innovation go hand in hand. From Westchester to Whittier and Carson to the Hollywood Hills, L.A.’s neighborhoods are filled with people who work hard, think big and care about what’s next — for their families, their businesses and their communities.
I’ve spent the last decade reporting on the way money moves and how those movements affect everything from Wall Street to Silicon Valley. I’ve covered the big trends and small details that make investing, financial markets and economics meaningful in people’s lives.
Business news isn’t just for the boardroom. Here in L.A., it’s woven into the fabric of our neighborhoods, our families and our future. That’s why I’m excited to join The Wave as your new business columnist, ready to bring you the stories, insights and opportunities shaping our communities in real time.
As a business reporter for the Wall Street Journal and other publications, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world, writing about businesses, currencies and economies from New York City to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and from Accra, Ghana, to Tokyo, Japan. In such reporting, I’ve had the privilege of breaking down the complexities of markets and technology for audiences around the globe.
But the stories that have always mattered most to me are the ones that start at the community level — stories of entrepreneurs, innovators and organizations working to create real change. My job has always been to make sense of the headlines and break down what’s really happening behind the numbers.
Now, I’m hoping to bring that insight to readers of The Wave. Each week, I’ll shine a light on the business trends that matter — whether it’s the trends reshaping the workplace, how new tech is opening doors for entrepreneurs or how nonprofit foundations are using business intelligence to make a difference. I’ll show you how these national and global shifts connect to the everyday realities right here in LA’s diverse communities.
It drives me crazy when I hear people say business stories are boring, because every story is a business story. Business stories are for anyone who wants to understand how money moves, how opportunities are created and how today’s tools can help build a better tomorrow. Whether you’re running a small business, building a career, or just trying to make smart choices for your family, I’ll explain business trends in plain English, minus the jargon or hype.
Technology is changing the way we bank, shop and even give back. Social media isn’t just about likes and shares anymore; it’s a powerful tool for building brands, organizing communities and even holding big companies accountable. Nonprofits are using business strategies to stretch every dollar and reach more people than ever before. These are the stories I’ll be covering, always with an eye on what’s new and what’s possible.
My goal is to bring you a broader perspective, connecting the dots between what’s happening in the world of business and what it means for you and your neighbors. I want this column to be a resource — a place where you can find out what’s happening in the world of business, what’s next and how to stay ahead of the curve.
I’m honored to join The Wave and talk business every week. With a history dating back to 1912 and a wide reach across diverse L.A. communities, The Wave offers a unique opportunity to connect with an audience that truly cares about issues like justice and economic opportunity, as well as Black empowerment and cultural heritage. I look forward to bringing my experience in financial journalism to this trusted publication, helping to unpack complex business topics in ways that are relevant and meaningful.
The Wave has a proud tradition of delivering quality news to readers who care about their communities and their future. I look forward to joining that time-honored tradition of providing quality content that educates, empowers and enlightens.
