‘Sweet’ Alice Harris gets her way with street renaming

Sweet Alice Harris speaks Sept. 16 at the dedication of Sweet Alice Row, a stretch of Lou Dillon Boulevard in Watts where Harris’ Parents of Watts Working with Youths and Adults program has operated since 1967. City Councilman Tim McOsker said the street designation ‘is a fitting testament to her decades of work in this community.’ See story on Page 2.

City welcomes Olympic flags prior to 2028 Games

Mayor Karen Bass speaks Sept. 12 at a City Hall ceremony where the Olympic and Paralympic flags were installed in advance of the 2028 Olympics coming to the city. The city also unveiled an exhibition showcasing photographs and other memorabilia from the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
