Gordon Parks’ photos on display at Pace Gallery

This photo by Gordon Parks, taken outside a department store in Mobile, Alabama in 1956, is part of the Gordon Parks exhibit at the Pace Gallery. The exhibit, that runs through Aug. 30, features 36 photos by Parks taken between 1942 and 1985.

Leaders spread anti-hate message after school incident

Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell speaks at an Aug. 8 news conference outside El Marino Language School in Culver City after a recent hate incident at the school. Two juveniles have been arrested for breaking a classroom window and vandalism that included graffiti using hate speech targeting the Black and LGBT communities.

400,000 students return to school at LAUSD campuses
