Koreatown hosts viewing party for Olympic ceremony
Members of the Korean Senior and Community Center Drum Class perform at the center July 26 prior to a viewing party for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The event was hosted by City Councilwoman Heather Hutt and several Koreatown organizations.
Governor orders removal of homeless camps throughout state
Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order July 25 giving state agencies, cities and counties the green light to get rid of homeless encampments statewide. The order came in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing states to crack down on makeshift camps set up by homeless persons.
Compton College highlights successes in five-year report
Former Compton College student Anthony Onwuegbuzia is featrued in the five-year report to the community recently issued by the college. After graduating from Compton College, Onwuegbuzia earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cal State Dominguez Hills where he is now a member of the faculty.

A California condor chick, one of 17 hatched during this year’s breeding season at the Los Angeles Zoo is weighed by a zoo employee. The 17 hatchlings is a new record for the zoo, breaking the old mark of 15.

Mayor to return to Paris for Olympic closing ceremony
Mayor Karen Bass and first lady Jill Biden were part of a U.S. delegation attending the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics July 26. The group also paid a visit to the Team USA High Performance Training Center and visited with several Olympic athletes during the visit.
