In their latest adventure, Jackson Jones and Mackenzie “Mac” Cunningham return as reluctant private investigator partners in Los Angeles — still clashing, still hot for each other and now taking on a job for the mob. Three gangsters want a missing package and one wrong move could cost them their lives.

That’s the basis for “Sounds Like Trouble” by Pamela Samuels Young and Dwayne Alexander Smith.

The NAACP Image Award-winning authors often discussed writing a book together.

“I came up with an idea for a book with two different points of view that go back and forth,” Smith said. “I thought it would be the perfect type of story for both of us to work on.”

“As soon as he laid out the plot, I knew it was something I wanted to write,” Samuels Young said.

The authors’ favorite part of their book is the interplay between the two main characters.

“There’s a constant will-they or won’t-they dynamic between them,” they said.

Smith wrote Jackson’s point of view, while Samuels Young wrote from Mackenzie’s perspective.

“We love telling stories with smart, engaging African-American characters,” said the authors. “We also love setting our books in and around Los Angeles; L.A readers will spot lots of familiar places in the book.”

Their newly released page-turner will interest readers who enjoy fun mysteries and those ready for a ride that becomes twisted, dangerous and scary.

“We want readers to enjoy the mystery and we hope we stump them as to the whodunit,” Samuels Young and Smith said.

Readers will journey with Jackson and Mac on their wild ride through recognizable parts of Los Angeles, including Inglewood, Hancock Park, Santa Monica and the Fairfax District.

“Sounds Like Trouble” is the second book in Samuels Yong and Smith’s book series following the investigators. Book one is “Sounds Like a Plan.”
