BOOK CORNER: Author uses acting process to provide tools to success

“Lights, Camera, Success,” by Sean Brasfield, is a thought-provoking book that challenges readers to redefine their understanding of true success by utilizing the acting process.

It was inspired by the author’s passion for working with youth and young adults.

“As a speaker that was part of a high school program, I was told that putting said info in a book would be more beneficial than just talking about it and a book would yield leverage as a speaker,” Brasfield said.

As a speaker, actor, mentor and entrepreneur, Brasfield shares stories of his own journey to success and provides applicable strategies to help readers attain their goals. His book consists of chapters that relate to the process of acting such as acknowledging one’s script and the importance of directors.

“Lights, Camera, Success” is intended for youth between the ages of 13-19 and young adults. Readers will be able to relate to Brasfield as he shares aspects of his life such as being diagnosed with a learning disability in grade school and realizing the importance of identifying mentors in your life.

“As I’ve continued to grow, I’ve learned how imperative mentors are and how it’s important to not just have one but to have a myriad of mentors and people who are directing you toward what your defined success is,” Brasfield said.

It was important for Brasfield to create a book that would offer young readers a roadmap to follow in order to achieve the success they desire. At the end of each chapter, Brasfield provides lined blank pages so that readers may write about what they learned in the previous chapter.

“The goal is that at the end of the book, they will have a soft blueprint for how they’re going to go about achieving said success,” Brasfield said. “I see value in working with youth because I get the God-given privilege to leave an imprint on the life of a younger person who will become better because they had someone in me who cared.”

In addition to being an author, speaker, entrepreneur, actor and mentor, Brasfield is a minister and works with the young adults and international mission team at his local church. He is based in St. Louis.
