COMPTON — The city will partner with Compton Advocates and District 1 Councilwoman Deidre Duhart to sponsor its 5th annual community resource fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 2 at the Dollarhide Community Center, 301 N. Tamarind Ave.

Families attending can also participate in activities designed for all ages, along with raffle prizes and giveaways.
This year’s event spotlights the Independence through Expungement session, scheduled from 12-1 p.m., focusing on community members seeking legal record clearance. The Independence through Expungement session aligns with statewide efforts to provide legal support to individuals seeking record clearance to improve employment and housing opportunities.
Participating organizations include the Office of Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson, Water Replenishment District, Alma Backyard Farms, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Fair Housing Foundation, Learning Rights Law Center, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Compton College, Magnolia Science Academy 3, Tarzana Treatment Center, Volunteers of America, Downey Federal Credit Union, WGU, YWCA, Community Lawyers Inc., Street Racing Kills (SRK), and more.
Local businesses, community groups, and city departments will operate booths throughout the event, providing informational materials and distributing various giveaways.

According to Compton Advocates, the event organizer, the community resource fair is intended as a day to connect residents with local services and providers across various sectors. Compton Advocates describes the fair as an opportunity “to bring the community together for a day of connection and access to resources” including healthcare, education, employment, and legal aid.
In addition to resource booths and informational sessions, past fairs have drawn dozens of organizations and hundreds of participants from Compton and surrounding areas.
