LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Wave and Jenesse Center will host an online Town Hall discussion from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 to discuss strategies on navigating racism and hate in today’s polarized society.
The forum, prompted in large part by the Nov. 5 election of Donald Trump as president, will feature video commentaries from U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and civil rights icon and media executive Benjamin Chavis on how to combat hate and discrimination in America.
In the video, the three leaders said all Americans — not just the disenfranchised — must come together to fight the spread of hate in America.
“We need honest leaders, community leaders willing to put in some time and effort [to overcome] racism,” said Waters, who represents California’s 43rd Congressional District. “Hate can be reduced and stemmed, but it will take collective effort.”
The town hall also will host a panel discussion featuring Nathan Sessoms, CEO of Success Beyond Measure, and Angela Parker, Jenesse’s director of community engagement and education, among others.
