LYNWOOD — City Councilman Oscar Flores has been appointed by County Supervisor Janice Hahn to the county’s Measure A Citizens Oversight Advisory Board.
The five-member board is tasked with reviewing all Measure A expenditures on a quarterly basis as well as submitting periodic evaluations of the Measure A program to the county, among other functions. Measure A is an annual parcel tax of 1.81 cents per square foot of improved property that generates approximately $110 million a year for the county’s local parks, beaches, and open space areas.
“Oscar has been a public servant and a champion for Lynwood and its neighbors in Southeast L.A. for most of his life,” Hahn said. “I’m thankful that he has chosen to serve our county on this important commission.
“Parks make life better and Oscar is going to help ensure that we protect and promote these assets for our communities.”
Flores was elected to the Lynwood City Council in 2020 and served as mayor of the city in 2023, but his public service has been a lifelong career. Flores worked with Lynwood throughout his time as a student at East Los Angeles College and UC Irvine and has worked as a recreation professional with the cities of Lynwood, Commerce, Culver City, Montebello and currently Bell Gardens.
Flores has also served in leadership roles with diverse recreation-based organizations, including as chair of the Lynwood Recreation Commission, charter board member of the Southern California Teen Coalition, director and president of the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation Southeast Area, and roles with the California Parks and Recreation Society.
“As a professional in municipal recreation, I am honored to have been appointed to this oversight advisory board by Supervisor Hahn as she too has been a champion for parks and open spaces in our Fourth District,” Flores said.
Measure A provides funds for the preservation of and protection of parks, safe places to play, community recreation facilities, beach, rivers, open spaces, water conservation, youth and veteran career development, and the urban tree canopy throughout the Regional Park and Open Space District.
