HOLLYWOOD — The Tony Award winning musical “Hamilton” will be the first production when the Hollywood Pantages Theatre reopens in August after being closed for more than a year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After holding our curtain for an unprecedented 523 days, Broadway is coming back to Hollywood and we couldn’t imagine a bigger celebration than hosting ‘Hamilton,’” said Jeff Leob, general manager for the Pantages and Broadway in Hollywood. Our staff has been hard at work over the past 14 months to make sure our community of theatergoers, actors, stagehands, and ushers can safely return and sit shoulder to shoulder in our grand auditorium.”

The Pantages is expected to open at full capacity. But Leob said the theater will follow whatever Los Angeles County Department of Public Health directives are in place this summer, including wearing masks if necessary.

Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test may also be required.

While none of us can perfectly predict the future, the county has been a fantastic partner in helping us prepare for our successful reopening,” Leob said. “As we all emerge from the challenges of this past year, we look forward to once again joyously welcoming everyone into ‘The Room Where It Happens.’”

Hamilton” was originally set to open at the Pantages on March 12, 2020, but was suspended after the theater was shuttered during a statewide stay-at-home order to curtail the spread of coronavirus. It previously played at the Pantages in 2017.

The show, which won 11 Tony Awards, uses a blend of hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway-style music plus innovative casting to tell the story of one of America’s Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton, the nation’s first Treasury Secretary.

It features a book, music and lyrics by award winning actor-writer Lin-Manuel Miranda.

We are thrilled to welcome back Los Angeles audiences to ‘Hamilton,’” producer Jeffrey Seller said. “After suspending performances on the eve of our return over a year ago, we are grateful to reassemble our cast, musicians, and crew back to the magnificent and safe Hollywood Pantages Theatre.”

Performances will begin on Aug. 17 and continue through Jan. 2, 2022. Tickets are on sale now.

No more than eight tickets can be purchased per household, with prices ranging from $55 to $195. A select number of premium tickets will be priced from $369.
