EAST LOS ANGELES — County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis distributed 1,000 turkeys to East Los Angeles communities Nov. 19 after handing out 1,400 turkeys last week at Whittier Narrows Park for San Gabriel Valley communities.
As part of her annual Operation Gobble Gobble, the turkeys were distributed to more than 160 community-based and faith-based organizations in the First District.
In addition, Supervisor Solis provided meal vouchers from Northgate Market for families to use at any local Northgate, which can be used to purchase meats, seafood, masa (dough) and produce.
“This event has become a longstanding tradition of mine to ensure holiday meals are provided to some of the most vulnerable households in the First District, especially those in our unincorporated areas,” Solis said. “I am grateful to all our community-based and faith-based partners for joining us today, and hope these meals will provide some holiday cheer and relief to our families.”
Operation Gobble Gobble is a yearly holiday event that distributes turkeys to pre-selected nonprofit organizations from the First District that will share the items with vulnerable families from the region at a later time.
This year’s sponsors included Suburban Water Company, Alma Family Services, Northgate Market, Hyundai, Cathay Bank, San Gabriel Valley Water, CalWater, Spectrum, County Department of Parks & Recreation, California Conservation Corp, Preferred Bank, and LA Regional Food Bank and included additional support from Supervisor Solis’ discretionary funds.
