This week in Black History April 30, 1983

Pioneering journalist Bob Maynard buys the Oakland Tribune, becoming the nation’s first Black owner of a metropolitan newspaper. That accomplishment, coupled with his passion for training minority journalists, made him known to some as the “Jackie Robinson of publishing.”
