CULVER CITY — City officials will hold a final community meeting on July 8 to collect feedback on proposed protected bike lanes along Overland Avenue between Culver Boulevard and Ballona Creek as part of the Better Overland Project.
The community open house and walking tour at Veterans Memorial Park will present design options for upgrading existing bike lanes to protected bike lanes. Staff will show comparisons of current conditions and proposed changes.
According to city officials, the project is intended to reduce vehicle speeds, provide cycling infrastructure, and improve pedestrian connections along the corridor. City staff will explain possible street redesigns.
The event starts at 6 p.m. with an open house at the Senior Center inside Veterans Memorial Park, 4117 Overland Ave. At 7 p.m., staff will lead a 45-minute walking tour from the Senior Center to Ballona Creek for residents to observe the corridor and give feedback on the proposals.
Participants who do not join the walking tour can remain at the Senior Center to discuss the project with staff. The event ends at 8:15 p.m.
The Better Overland Project is part of the city’s efforts to implement traffic calming and improve bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along key corridors. The Overland Avenue segment has been identified as a priority for safety improvements.
Protected bike lanes use physical barriers or separation from vehicle traffic, such as bollards, planters, or raised surfaces. These features are intended to increase cycling safety and encourage bicycle use for transportation.
The project area runs from Culver Boulevard south to Ballona Creek, connecting residential neighborhoods to recreational areas and providing access to regional bike path networks. The corridor is a north-south route for cyclists and pedestrians.
City officials stated this will be the last community event focused on the Overland Avenue segment before design development continues. Previous meetings have collected input on other parts of the Better Overland Project.
