BOOK CORNER: Family ties are tested in  suspenseful ‘Next of Twin’

By Marissa Wells

Contributing Writer

Thirty years after being separated at birth, twin sisters Anjali and Riah have been reunited.

Each finds herself wanting what the other has: Anjali is a successful business owner and married to a wealthy lawyer named Michael; Riah is a skilled con artist and thief.

A week after they are reunited Riah wakes up in the hospital minus her memory and is mistaken for her twin. She learns that Michael is dead and that she is the only suspect in his murder. As Riah struggles to regain her memory, she discovers secrets that run deeper than bloodlines.

So goes “Next of Twin” by Jass Aujla. The story’s concept came from Aujla’s personal curiosity of twins and her love for suspense novels.

“I was fascinated by an article I read about twins getting away with murder because of their shared, near-identical DNA — and I wanted to explore that in my book,” Aujla said. “I also wanted to write a story that kept readers guessing until the very end, and maybe even after.”

The twin characters offer readers insight into the ways in which family dynamics and relationships shape lives.

“There’s a duality to this story, with an overarching ‘good versus bad’ theme — both internally and externally for the twins,” Aujla said. “As the story progresses, each twin is forced to confront her past and make difficult choices that will ultimately shape her future.”

The author hopes readers can relate to the obstacles and experiences that both Riah and Anjali face, and that her “novel will serve as a reminder that everyone has their own unique story and perspective.”

“Next of Twin” will be appreciated by those who enjoy fast-paced plots, strong female characters and story twists that keep readers guessing.

“As well, this book will resonate with readers interested in themes of identity, family and the lengths we will go to in order to protect the ones we love,” Aujla said. “Fans of authors such as Shari Lapena, Ruth Ware and Paula Hawkins will surely find something to appreciate in ‘Next of Twin.’”

In addition to being an author Aujla is a professional in the banking industry. She is based in Toronto. For more information about the author and her work, visit jassaujla.com.
