BOOK CORNER: Veteran barber collects year’s

worth of sayings in new book

Contributing Writer

An engaging new book, “365 Sayings from the Barbershop” by Jelon the Barber, presents readers with a year’s worth of sayings designed to provoke thought and provide awareness about important aspects of daily life.

The Los Angeles native’s career as a barber and the sayings that he recorded along the way led him to write this book.

“I was inspired by all the witty comments shared so randomly that weren’t recorded and only treasured in the moment,” Jelon said. “So, I decided to be the first to record them out of the barbershops and give them reverberating life. …”

Some of the thoughts, ideas and stories shared inside address decision making, overcoming adversity, producing quality work, relationships, wealth and much more.

“365 Sayings from the Barbershop” is intended for members of the barbershop community and other entrepreneurs.

“I hope readers will gain access, through examining the sayings, to new thought and sharpening of minds based upon engagement with the applications and not just the sayings,” Jelon said. “I hope new habits are formed and habits that aren’t so good broken.”

Most readers will relate to the book as it helps them further develop and expand their reasoning and overall thinking capacity.

“If we can all extract the principles outlined in this book, through sayings heard inside barbershops, we can become wiser and more knowledgeable on how to deal with a multitude of life’s challenges,” said the author.

As someone who has been a barber for four decades, it was important for Jelon to release a book. “365 Sayings from the Barbershop” is his first book and he’s currently working on a book of barber curriculum.

“I want to leave a legacy of my experience and work to the barber industry as a recognized leader in the field of barbering,” Jelon said. “There must be some new tools, literature products and guides in our profession and I am here to produce that.”

Jelon will host a book signing and question and answer session at noon June 1 at the barbershop located at 4441 W. Slauson Ave.

In addition to being an author and barber, Jelon is a barber instructor. He is based in both Los Angeles, and Atlanta. For more information about the author and his work, visit jelonthebarber.com or via all social media platforms: @jelonthebarber.
