LYNWOOD — The Lynwood Library reopened Sept. 4 following an $8 million renovation project that modernized the nearly 50-year-old facility with new technology and expanded areas for community use.
County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Library Director Skye Patrick joined community members for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking completion of the renovation of the 12,000-square-foot library.
The library, at 11320 Bullis Road near the Lynwood Civic Center and Lynwood Park, was built in 1977 and had not undergone significant upgrades since it opened, according to the county.
“These upgrades to the Lynwood Library were long overdue,” Hahn said. “This community loves its library, they’ve been waiting so patiently for two long years while we renovated it, and now the day to welcome them back has finally come.
“I’m proud that we were able to deliver this state-of-the-art library to the families of Lynwood. There is something here for everybody, and this beautiful new space is going to inspire the next generation of leaders and learners here in Lynwood.”
The renovated library includes dedicated areas for adults, teens and children, an enlarged community room, two group study rooms, a new customer service desk, express self-checkout machines, public computers and Wi-Fi, officials said. Two large skylights were added to bring more natural light into the building, while drought-tolerant landscaping was installed outside.
“The reopening of Lynwood Library is an important investment in the people and future of Lynwood,” Patrick said. “Libraries are deeply rooted in the communities they serve, and we are proud to once again open these doors to residents with a renewed space designed to support their everyday needs, aspirations, and opportunities. We are excited to begin this next chapter alongside the Lynwood community.”

“We sincerely thank Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and the county of Los Angeles for their partnership and significant investment in making this project possible,” she added.
The renovation is part of a broader effort to upgrade libraries in southeast Los Angeles County. When the project was announced, Lynwood was the first of five libraries slated for refurbishment with support from Hahn’s office, along with the Huntington Park Library, Bell Library, Leland R. Weaver Library in South Gate and Maywood César Chávez Library.
L.A. County Library operates 86 libraries and a 15-vehicle mobile fleet serving 3.4 million residents across 3,000 square miles, according to the county.
