R&B superstar Stevie Wonder drew a crowd of fans and community members as he made the rounds at the 25th Annual KJLH Women’s Health Expo, turning the Long Beach Convention Center into a lively hub of health screenings, music and conversation.
The expo, organized by Compton-based radio station KJLH-FM, celebrated 25 years as one of California’s largest women’s health events. This year’s theme, “The Silver Lining: 25 Years of Building Generational Health,” focused on supporting women and families with practical resources and education.
Attendees found a bustling expo floor packed with more than 200 exhibitors. Free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes were available alongside mammograms and dental checkups. Local chefs offered cooking demonstrations, fitness instructors led group exercise sessions and mental health professionals hosted workshops on stress management.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters was honored during the program and spoke to the audience about the importance of health access.
“Each year since the expo was founded I am so pleased to join KJLH in advancing the health and wellness of women and families,” Waters said. “The founders of this expo knew that women wanted information about their health and needed better connections with health care providers so that they could take control of their health and the health of their families.”
Wonder, who owns KJLH-FM, greeted guests, visited booths and participated in the recognition of Waters and other community leaders. He chatted with attendees, posed for photos and sampled some of the healthy snacks offered by local vendors.
The event also featured a kids’ zone with interactive games and health activities, a beauty pavilion with skincare consultations and a main stage with live music and guest speakers. Organizers said the goal was to create an environment where families could learn, connect and have fun while focusing on their well-being.
