LOS ANGELES – Ten children from across the U.S. will have a chance to win a $1,000 savings account next month as part of the 16th annual “I Got Bank!” financial literacy contest sponsored by OneUnited Bank and Big Brothers Big Sisters America, officials announced.
The historic partnership reflects a shared commitment to nationwide financial literacy, officials said, equipping young people with tools to create lasting economic empowerment, build brighter futures and reach their full life potential.
“OneUnited Bank has spent years making sure that even the littlest among us learn the language of money, and we are proud to build on that work,” said Gale Nelson, president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, which spearheaded the national partnership.
“When a little [person] learns to save at 8 years old, it builds more than a bank account — it builds confidence, discipline and a vision for the future,’ she added. “Through this partnership, our [youth] can help make financial literacy part of every match.”
OneUnited Bank President Teri Williams, author of “I Got Bank! What My Granddad Taught Me About Money,” said bank officials “are thrilled to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to expand financial literacy.”
To submit an entry, children ages 8-12 should read a financial literacy book and write a 250-word essay or create an art project explaining how they will apply what they learned from the book to their lives. OneUnited Bank offers a free “I Got Bank” e-book, officials said.
Entrants should visit www.oneunited.com/book to complete an official contest form and submit it along with their entry. Ten winners will be chosen and awarded $1,000 savings account at OneUnited Bank by Dec. 29.
