“Red, White, and Blue,” by Larry, Paris and Langston Rodgers, is an engaging children’s picture book that educates kids with images in three of the most influential and recognizable colors that stand for liberty, justice and freedom for all.

The book is intended for families with children in preschool through fifth grade. Each page bursts with vibrant imagery, like the red dodgeball and juicy apple to the blue dolphin, delicious blueberries, majestic blue whale and the white snowman, fluffy clouds and a polar bear.

“The featured images are very recognizable and will jump start little kids to knowing what certain objects are and what colors they relate to,” Paris Rodgers said. “This is kind of like a first book for little kids to fall in love with.”

The Rodgers family are literacy advocates and it was this passion that served as inspiration for the book.

“We love to inspire children to read,” the family said in a statement. “It was important to create our book to educate children about the power of literacy because our young readers are future adult leaders.”

As a child, Langston Rodgers recalls moments at the library with his father, Larry, and now recognizes the importance of literacy as a teen.

“I remember those days and I just want other kids to feel the joy that I had when my dad took me to the library and read books to me,” Langston Rodgers said. “It’s important for everyone to read. Reading helps boost your brain and boost your knowledge.”

The Rodgers family hopes the book instills American pride in readers.

“I want more people to feel proud to have been blessed with the opportunity to live in America,” Larry Rodgers said. “We want to inspire that love and I think it starts with them having that connection with teaching and showing their child how of an importance that is as well.”

In addition to being authors, the Rodgers family are Los Angeles-based entrepreneurs working in the entertainment and religious sectors. They have a book publishing company, ForWord Books.

The family will host a book signing at 6:30 p.m. May 2 at the Inglewood Public Library, 101 W. Manchester Blvd.
