WATTS — The LAFC Foundation and the Kellyn Acosta Foundation teamed up April 12 to present a grant to Nick’s Kids’ Soccer Program. The funds will be used to complete the refurbishment of the 109th Street Recreational Park community soccer field.

“It is great to be at the Nick’s Kids’ Soccer Field in Watts and meet all of the youth players in the Nick’s Kids Soccer Program,” LAFC midfielder Kellyn Acosta said. “I’m excited to partner with the LAFC Foundation and work together with this community to be a force for good in Watts to help provide a safe space for kids to play.”

The LAFC Foundation and the Kellyn Acosta Foundation will equally fund the project that will provide new turf for the community soccer field and support future soccer and health and wellness programming in Watts.

Acosta visited the Nick’s Kids Soccer Program in Watts to announce the project. The refurbishment of the court is expected to be completed by early summer.

The Kellyn Acosta Foundation was established to provide Acosta a platform to have a positive social impact in the community. This is the first major initiative for the foundation, which is focused on raising awareness and funds for disadvantaged or disabled youth through soccer, sportsmanship, education and experience.

Acosta is in his second season with LAFC after starting his professional soccer career in Dallas in 2013. He played for the Colorado Rapids from 2018 to 2021. A midfielder, he also plays for the U.S. Men’s National Team, making 57 international appearances over the last seven years.

He played in two games in the 2022 World Cup.

The LAFC Foundation is the charitable arm of the Los Angeles Football Club. It furthers the club’s mission of uniting the city through the game of soccer by supporting local organizations, partners and infrastructure that brings at-risk youth the life skills and resources they need to be successful off the field.

Nick’s Kids Soccer is a youth program focused on the well-being of each and every individual. Its mission is to ensure that every child within the program is able to enjoy the benefits of being a child, with a goal to ensure that participating children are able to articulate and surround themselves with positive people and a positive environment to ensure a positive future.
