This Week in Black History May 18, 1896

The U.S. Supreme Court rules in the Plessy v. Ferguson decision that the separate but equal doctrine that was used in most of the South was constitutional. The case arose when Homer Plessy, a mixed race Louisiana man, refused to leave a whites-only train car.
