Mississippi-born, Cotton Club dancer turned actress Juanita Moore, Oscar-nominated for her role as Black housekeeper Annie Johnson in the 1959 remake of “Imitation of Life,” is at long last getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Margaret Avery, Jayne Kennedy, Debbie Allen and film critic Leonard Maltin will make remarks at the posthumous induction on Oct. 18, at 11:30 a.m. at 6100 Hollywood Blvd. at Gower Street, with Moore’s nephew Arnett Moore accepting. The event will be streamed live exclusively at www.walkoffame.com.
Inglewood’s Miracle Theater will honor Moore’s legacy during her birthday weekend with a matinee charity showing of “Imitation of Life” on Oct. 20. Visit forgetmenotjuanitamoore.org for details and don’t forget tissues.
SPOTLIGHT: A week after impressing with her acting chops in Lifetime’s “Nobody Dumps My Daughter,” and wowing in her Tiny Desk Concert, master percussionist/vocalist Sheila E. has dropped her first-ever salsa album, “Bailar,” with contributions from Gloria Estefan, Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa and more.
In support, Sheila E. & The E-Train (featuring the renowned Lynn Mabry and guitar whiz Mychael Gabriel) headline at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach on Oct. 20 with the Candy Dulfer Band opening.
