“Please Excuse Me While I Take Off My Bra!”, by Harolyn Benjamin, is a new guidebook that encourages readers to shed the pain of their past and step into the best versions of themselves.
“Using the metaphor of a bra, I wanted to walk my sister/girlfriends through the struggles many women face, because of childhood and adult trauma that often goes un-healed,” said the author.
The Los Angeles native is affectionately called the “unofficial ambassador of joy” and her desire to not only spread joy but to help women create their own loving tribe served as inspiration for her book.
“I had lived with joy all of my life and I thought that in this book I could introduce her to other sister/girlfriends,” Benjamin said. “It was important for me to say to those sisters who are still struggling with relationships that we have to do the work, we can no longer afford to blame those people and places and things that were harmful to our development.”
Within the book, Benjamin shares stories of her journey from age 9 through her late 50s. Each chapter contains nuggets of wisdom, humor and thought-provoking questions that will aid readers on their journey to live out their God-given purpose.
“Please Excuse Me While I Take Off My Bra!” will move readers as they connect with Benjamin and the various themes she presents to readers like resilience, self-love, sisterhood, faith, marriage, joy and much more.
“I want my sisters to know that I love them and that this book was born from pain that God turned into joy,” Benjamin said. “I want them to stand right where they are and declare that their soul is worth fighting for and I want them to know that the pain and trauma doesn’t have to stop them from finding love and support.”
In addition to being an author, Benjamin is the executive director of Women Who Care, Inc, a motivational speaker/Life Coach, and an Organizational Team Building Coach. She’s based in both Alabama and Louisiana.
